I think that Olli's father's speech, as a whole is a paradox. He was asked to speak at the party, even though it is a known fact that he was highly ranked in the Communist party. He was very nervous to speak, because there was such a variety of people, and the reunification was so new. He had to speak about something he wasnt sure if he liked yet or not. He had worked for the Party for a long time, so it was like he was turning his back on the Party, which wasn't good just a short while before. He was also a little drunk, which did not help him prepare for the speech.
